Acquired Brain Injury
Personalized programs to help adults recover and reach their fullest potential
Acquired brain injury (ABI) is brain damage caused by events that occurred after birth, such as a head injury or health concern. The long-term effects of ABI can range from mild to profound and are different for each person affected. Many people with ABI experience increased fatigue (mental and physical) and they may experience changes to their behaviour and personality, physical and sensory abilities, or thinking and learning.
How We Can Help
Our ABI programs are designed to help adult survivors of ABI make the fullest recovery possible. We help them remain in their home, build independence, and improve their quality of life, all the while understanding the many changes they and their family must now navigate.
We provide personalized help in their own home, up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our program supports: positive problem solving, mental health and addictions treatment, building coping skills, forging healthy relationships, financial management, setting routines, developing memory aids, and much more.
Certified Brain Injury Specialists
The WJS Canada ABI program is the only program of its kind west of Ontario. We are staffed with Certified Brain Injury Specialists, governed by the Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists and administered by the Brain Injury Association of America. Certification requires a level of work experience, training and a written examination as well as 10 hours of continuing education credits every year to maintain certification.
